Showboat Community Theatre Cancels Summer Musical
Plans to present “The King and I” as the Summer Musical this June at the Showboat Community Theatre in Hermann have been canceled, according to Marsha Nyberg, chair of the Showboat’s Board of Directors.
The Board has reluctantly taken steps to cancel the musical due to the lack of a director. After months of searching, locally and in surrounding areas, no director has been found.
The Showboat is a volunteer organization and depends on the participation of the citizens of Hermann and surrounding areas. The director of a major production like a musical receives a small stipend, but the job requires a love of theatre and devotion to the project above and beyond any financial remuneration.
A musical director, Ketha Bounds, was ready to take on that part of the project. Volunteer actors, especially for the children’s roles, have been eager to participate.
However, without a director, the show can’t go on.
The Board will begin immediately to search for directors for future productions. Suggestions for plays, musicals, actors and directors are welcome at any time. Please contact Marsha Nyberg, board chair, at 314-280-9943 or marsha@spirithill.info.
The Showboat Theatre will be active this season, in spite of the lack of a local director for the musical. The next scheduled performance is on Friday, March 19. “The Tweed Show” comes directly from Branson, and features the vocals of John Tweed and his daughter Sarah. |
